What Happened to Liberty?
I am a conservative but not a traditionalist. I start to separate myself from the conservative pack when they insist church must be done a certain way. I want no part of “doctrinal” restrictions that go beyond the basic message of the gospel. How can anyone walking in humility declare that tongues have ceased and seek to restrict people who practice them from ministry when more and more genuine, godly believers experience this intimate gift? Is it not like saying, “I’ve never been to the moon, so no one else really could have either?”
Maybe we should heed Paul’s teachings on eating meat sacrificed to idols (1Cor 8), or the Apostles stand on circumcision (Acts 15). When Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin, He also set us free from the legalistic restrictions of the law. We must not get bogged down in debatable doctrine. We must live in a well-balanced liberty set forth in the Gospel of Jesus Christ if we ever want add to the church daily again.
