Who Do You Smell Like?
The fragrance industry will pay big bucks to sign a celebrity to endorse or put their name on the company’s product. They know if we see someone famous and beautiful promoting something, we will want it because we want to be like them. So we buy the perfume, cologne, lotion, etc. in hopes of smelling like and perhaps sharing the attractiveness of the celebrity.
As Christians, we have taken on a scent that should be growing stronger each day. The Apostle Paul puts it this way:
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” 2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NAS
Committed, growing followers of Christ are like your most favorite scent. Whether it’s the smell of apple pie, coffee, flowers, or mountain air, we should be comforting and refreshing to other Christians and non-Christians. Just like too much perfume or not enough personal hygiene causes us to be smelled before we are seen, becoming more Christ-like each day should make us known as His before we say or do anything.
Hi Angela,
I’m visiting here via The 3.1.6 Journal- I’m a fellow contributor.
Just wanted to say I enjoyed your piece about Christ healing the helpless man by the pool. That’s a message of hope for all times of life (especially this very busy season I find myself in right now).
