Bible Study Conversation – Tradition and the Word
Mark 7: 8, 13 – I have to take issue with the Message paraphrasing of v 8. The terms “latest fad” and “tradition” are not synonymous. So with that said up front and using the standard translated word “tradition,” I was reminded of what so many in the church bicker and complain about. Not sin. Not disobedient lifestyles. Not gossip and slander. Not bigotry. Not dishonesty. Instead they are more concerned with maintaining the traditions of how they’ve always done things. Jesus puts them right in their place in these verses.
