Fairly Ideal
I had the opportunity to watch the new TV series Fairly Legal recently. Throughout the show I noticed similarities between the main character and the current young generation. Whether you call them Generation Y or Mosaics or whatever, they are idealists. The last Presidential election is proof of that.
They want a world where people are treated fair and just. They want everyone to have opportunity; to have food, clothing, shelter, and health insurance. Wonderful things we should all desire for everyone.
The main character in the series is an ex-lawyer turned mediator who solves everyone’s problem by talking them over and finding a compromise that makes everyone happy. What a wonderful world it would be.
The opposite of this is the older generations who have experienced the reality of life to the point of becoming cynical of fairness and justice. Both extremes, idealism and cynicism, are flawed. Both extremes have much to teach each other.
Sin in the world prevents an ideal world for everyone, but we shouldn’t allow the wisdom of age and reality to keep us from helping as many as possible fulfill God’s ideal life for themselves.
Are you an idealist, a cynic, or somewhere in between?
