The Song of the Journey
The Hebrews were on a journey. I am on a journey. You are on a journey. We are all on a journey – whether we are following God or not.
We may plan our day, our week, or our entire life. I was going to marry a lawyer, live in a big house downtown, have five kids, and drive a Mercedes station wagon. And I am very thankful that didn’t happen.
Regardless of our plans, it is God who directs our steps. Even when we listen and obey him, we don’t know what the next day, week, or year holds. It’s called faith, and God requires it.
Just as the Hebrews waited for the cloud by day and fire by night to guide them, we must watch for God to open doors, where ever they may be, and walk through them. Numbers chapter nine contains a song the Hebrews sang about waiting for God’s guidance. They never knew how long it would be before the next movement. Maybe we all need a song for the journey.
