Personal Preferences in Church
This gets a lot of attention in Christian circles and rightly so, to a degree. You may have heard it from the pulpit or elsewhere numerous times, “It’s all about Jesus, not what you want. Put your personal preferences aside.”
Let’s face it though, most everything we do is based on personal preference – the clothes we wear, the food we eat. I’m sure whoever picked out the wall colors, seating, and design layout of your church used some personal preference in making those decisions.
A church made up of a majority of people who favor rock music shouldn’t consistently barrage them with Southern Gospel or vice-versa. That’s just one example. Most anything else can be substituted.
The real problem arises when we don’t allow others and the overall need to temper our preferences. That becomes selfishness, which is the true issue here.
