Comments on Public Displays of Christianity
During my morning drive today, there was a discussion on the radio about public displays of Christian beliefs, prompted I suppose by the recent resignation of our local college baseball coach after being told to remove two religious signs / ads lined around his outfield. The questioned pose by one of the announcers was, how would we feel if someone put up a sign promoting Islam and praising Allah. The other announcer replied, “that’s a very good question.” It is a good question and one that should be considered, but another point to consider is that the United States of America was founded upon Christian beliefs. While there is freedom to practice any religion of choice, all of our nation’s historical documents support this Christian foundation. Therefore, those living or visiting this country must respect that fact in the same way we should not move to or visit an Islamic nation and expect them to remove displays of their religion.
